Re: Water and Exhaust

Most Mercs are thru the prop exhaust and water cooled. For those, that would be normal. What HP and year motor do you have?

It is a 1984 75 Hp. I was searching through some older post and saw that it seams normal but I wanted to make sure because I am unfamiliar with outboards.

Re: Water and Exhaust

yes water and exaust does come out of the prop, water is sucked in threw the sides of the lower unit and pulled up to the engine to keep it cooled and then it is expelled out the prop along with the exaust, there is also a small hole on the side of the engine that allows a small stream of water to come out (which we like to say it is peeing) if water is not coming out of the hole then it is either clogged or your impellar is not working, that happened to mine, we replace the impellar and didn't have water coming out so we ran a small piece of wire in there and a little gunk came out, now it pees like a race horse.
