Just bought a 2001 2 stroke 8hp tohatsu and runs beautiful.
Bit hard to start, have to have throttle open and will die if you try to idle. Can only engage if you have higher rpm then runs beautiful but will die as soon as you try to idle. Hasnt been run much. Is this carb related? Any help would be appreciate. Will stay running if you have throttle just above the notch on the hand tiller, as soon as you get close to it it dies.
Thanks

I had the same problem, the fuel line was not airtight and was allowing air pockets, hope it works for you.

I had similar issues with my 8hp Nissan. I bought a carb rebuild kit. When i took the carb apart, i wonder how it even ran with all the varnish and sticky gum in there. The guy i got it from said it sat in his shed for a few years. (no wonder it was full gummed up varnish) Anyway the motor runs great now, started on the first pull every time out this year. The rebuild kit was around 40 bucks and not to hard to do.

Tight lines, Bruce
