I put a timing light on my boat last night because I have been having a dieseling problem. The idle timing was at 12 degrees and the manual calls for 2degrees. Do you all think this could cause any damage? I changed all the plugs and they all looked the same and were pretty dirty. I am going to be lowering the timing to 2 degrees before hitting the water again but I just bought this boat and have no idea how long it has been ran like this.

LOng time occurances can cause problems. But you dont know how long it was doing it. I would set it at 2 degrees BTC and run it. See what happens

After finally finding some information on this I found that out of base timing mode it should run 12 degrees.

Now back to square one on the dieseling problem...

Hold on there. Why would you say that it should be at 2? Do you know something no one else know, like what ignition system he has or what year or SN his engine is. There are SN breaks all over the place for different settings.

Post some real information, like SN, year, type of ignition system etc.

I dont know a lot about this stuff yet Don, my boat is a 2000 stingray 190RS. I am not sure what kind of ignition it is or the serial. Where do I find the serial?
