Re: Lake Mead for fathers day anyone?

I have plans to be on the ocean out of long beach or I would have liked that trip. just a question, do you guys have ramp gestapo (or how ever you spell it) here now they check our bilge for water. if there is any (and I mean any) they won't let you launch. the mussell thing or something like that. I have a 17' jet boat with a panther jet. the way the bilge is shaped for the intake on the jet. there is no way to get the water out. I have to crawl around with rags and try to dry under the engine. but if they stick there finger through the bilge drain and come out with any moisture, your done. It is getting stupid. and the part that makes me laugh is, you know how much water is sitting in my jet from a previous trip and they don't think about that. or what is left in the engine. just wondering if nevada has started that yet?

nope, not where I go. I go all the way up north though, and alot of people dont like the extra trip...the whole reason I like the extra trip lol. The rangers are usually there at the ramp on a busy weekend, just checking for safe maneuvers and obvious intoxication. Most the time they are sitting in their trucks. My boat broke down at the ramp for a minute, and they asked if i needed help, thats it though. I usually stop and ask how busy it has been and stuff like that to stay on their good side.

but no, definitely no bilge checking here. Im not surprised in Cali though. my dad lives there, but trailers out to lake mead exclusively with his boat.

disneyland would be fun, havent been there in years lol. Where is it that you fish out of? Do you ever go to echo bay? Thats pretty much the only place that ive put in over the last 15 years or so. less crowded, theres the hotel there, etc...

Hey redone4X4, how's the water level up at Echo doing?
I heard they had to move the launch out again! Pretty soon it'll be as bad as Callville with the 1/4 mile walk up hill to get the truck and trailer!
We'll be heading out to Temple Bar the week of the 29th of June for 4 fun filled days on the water. We'll have to take a cruise over to Echo and see how it's fairing.;)
Have fun on Father's Day!

yes, they moved the marina out again this year. i like going there though because they continue to extend the concrete ramp as it drops, and I know the area really well. Yes it can be quite a hike, especially from the water up to the hotel now. let me know if you plan on cruising up that way...we are going out sat. morning and staying the night, slipping the boat for the night and leaving sunday afternoon. cant wait!!!

Hey Gypsysoul....I was at Silverwood lake Memorial day weekend and I had just washed the boat before we headed out. So when we were checking in they noticed some water that had been sitting at the end of my trailer and almost did not let me in because of this. They got inside and checked all my compartments and bilge looking for a reason not to let me in. The bilge was spotless. So they finally let me in after a 30 min inspection while a mile long of boats behind me waited. I think that's:eek: just takeing it a little to far and pissing a whole lot of people off.

Hey Red...Forget about Silverwood, it's not worth the tow. I usually head out to Havasu but I'm ready for a change of senery. I just got back from Bass lake up in Madera County just outside of Yosemite, now that place is BEAUTIFUL. But I definately will be at Mead soon.

yep, I live twenty minutes from the lake. but refuse to go there anymore. which I am sure is what they want. If you are looking for a great california lake to spend a week on. head up to pine flats above fresno, real warm water big lake with lots of coves like mead. and yea red I am due for a mead trip, been several years since I have made a houseboat trip. we ususlly rent out of echo bay. If work allows I would like to make a trip this year, even if we just bring the ski's. I need to put the jet back together in the boat. the front bearing came loose and chewed up the bowl. had to resleave it, now need to finish it. I have way to many irons in the fire. we are also redoing a 34' houseboat in our driveway. I should finish all of these projects when I am about 80! lol:cool:

Re: Lake Mead for fathers day anyone?

to sum up our weekend.....wind advisory on saturday, not much better on sunday, so it was rough and choppy everywhere. no tubing, just a lil cruising and swimming. All in all, it still beats sitting at home lol.

Re: Lake Mead for fathers day anyone?

how do you normally check it? i checked the weather online before we went, but I had paid for the hotel already so we went kinda knowing that it wont be the best time. Even still, we got out of town and relaxed for 2 days lol. We kept saying "it will probably die down" haha. sunday morning wasnt all that bad until it picked up again. not the best, or worst trip we had so it was alright.
