Boat owners need to take safety seriously. Over the past two weeks I have noticed a lot of operator errors that lead to boat accidents and even death. Make sure you are prepared while you?re boating. EDIT has great safety tips.

Dont take this the wrong way, but it seems like you are just promoting your website... and admin here doesnt like that.

I agree, while the message is great, the delivery is suspect.

We prefer to be very reckless and try to kill each other while we are on the water. The process of natural selection just takes way too long.

I?m glad to see they removed the advertising from the original post. The post message is good but then you throw in the free vacation thing and it becomes obvious why he even posted here. Sorry bud, no free advertising.

Now thats funny!

I agree with everyone here. A safety reminder is great, but lets leave it at that.

Re: Taking Boat Safety Seriously

This thread is all bull**** to me. What about the thread in this same category about Wallmart? Some poster is raving about how great Wallmart's marine/boating section is and has even mentioned comparing prices with Iboats.com. Shouldn't that be taken off as well? Or any other store or sales suggestion not directly related to Iboats?

I know one time I posted a link to a product at C@be!a$ and it was like blasphemy...although Iboats didn't carry it. I was told it wasn't right to do that and not supportive of Iboats.

I think what it comes down to is the moderators of the Iboats forum need to be consistent with every thread. If there's no advertising of other vendors or products, shouldnt' the moderators moderate all the advertising and products on the forum?

Whoever told you that was wrong. Lots of us post links to products on other web sites all the time without issue.

The case with this thread was that the poster in his VERY FIRST POST was directing us to a product on another site. That's against the rules.

The site that he linked says its the California Department of Boating & Waterways. I didn't see anything for sale on it. Does anyone have any reason to believe that its not a legit, government owned safety site?

It is one thing to talk about a deal you found at a local store. In this post he joined the forum and posted a link to a site that was advertising vacations. Spam in the forum.

to clarify the situation:
this is directly from the forum guidelines. " The First post of a topic MAY NOT be used to advertise or promote a product, company, internet site, sale, individual, or service."

this does not only mean the person's first post. but the original post in a new thread.

For those that did not see the website I will tell you what was in it. It was a test of eight questions to see if you were a safe boater. At the end of the test if you wanted to see your results you had to submit your email address and be entered in a free vacation sweepstakes type thing. I took the test but did not submit my email so I got no test results. It was a waste of time since their intent wasn?t to educate me but instead obtain my address to fill my inbox with crap.
It?s very different than somebody saying you can buy attwood products at wal-mart.

And yes, we should support iboats if we need to make an online purchase, after all they do provide this great forum for us. I bought a propeller from the iboats store and it only took three days to be at my door. The price was very completive also.
And no, I don?t work for iboats.

OK, that's the key in my mind. Its probably not a legit state of Calif. website, making it THE DREADED SPAM!!!
