Looks like go2marine has them in stock.

http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=99537F

I know about parts being out of stock. Ordered a sealing ring for my raw water pump from iboats as well as a few other items, get the box and the ring never made it into the box.

Call CS and they said it was sold out at the time i ordered and that one was being shipped from sierra or iboats cause they got them in. We shall see.

Good luck, hard to belive they have a 4 cyl engine thats a 3.8litre. Thats a good size engine.

I guess you can feel like and OMG owner now, the parts are out there you just gotta look for them.

Always bugs and wrinkles to work out on a new rig, once you have them done atleast you will know what you have.
Replacing the cam and water pump seals right away as well ?

Head gasket and valve cover should be the Ford 460 motor

Actually the previous owner claims he replaced them along with the cam itself less than 20 hours ago (and he has the receipts) so I'm hoping it's all good for now. I haven't noticed it leaking out of the weap hole yet.

Man! You gotta stop reading all of the "470" posts and cheer up. You should be able to find ANY discontinued part you need on ebay. All of the other stuff should be available from one of the MANY online suppliers. OEM parts from Mercruiser are more expensive, but should be readily available. Illegitimis non Carborundum!!:D

Slydog,
There are parts around for the 470. Try this website, it is a 470 only site with some parts and a smaller but 470 only forum.

Just for information purposes: I was out looking for 3.7 Mercruiser stuff and came across a hotrod site where they were discussing the Merc 3.7 as a racing engine (one guy set a land speed record with one) and they found that the ONLY head gasket to use was the Mercruiser OEM. The other brands were prone to leak. The OEM apparently has a special seal around the water passages, that others don't. I am not sure, but the others may be for the 460 ford engine, while the OEM was made specifically for marine use in the 3.7. Sounds like the extra $30 for the gasket may be a good investment.

Ahh, that explains why the freaking head gasket is $50 all by itself.
