An add for a Boston Whaler Montauk I'm interested in says it has a "2002 Tracker by Mercury".

I think 1990's Trackers were actually Force motors.

Anybody know if the 2002 Tracker is a REAL Merc?
Any difference?

Thanks,
Jim

Its a Merc.

They bought Force from usmarine in late 1989, and discontinued all Force production in 1999.

Tracker bought engines from several manufacturers over the years.

4 stroke or two? what size? mercury completely absorbed force by 97 or so, but merc has never built a 4 stroke smaller than 75 hp. Those are all yamaha powerheads.
Merc 40,50 and 60 hp 4 strokes are built in Fon du Lac, WI. The 30 hp and smaller used to be Yamaha, but have been Tohatsu since about 2005 (don't remember exactly what year).

Merc 40,50,60 HP 4 strokes manufactured since 2005 have been built at their plant in Suzhou, China. All 4 strokes above 75 HP are built in the USA at Fon du Lac.
