US Open Golf @ Bethpage NY

I live about 2 miles SE from the public course at Bethpage State Park and have played the courses many times. If you check it out on TV, you can see how fortunate I am to have such a terrific public course like this down the road. The unfortunate part is the 60,000 new people who have invaded my town this weekend for the Open. I went fishing at 5am this morning and there was already a traffic jam getting thru town. Monday I'll have my town back!!!!​

I'll take a 60,000 visitor boost to our economy anyday as long as they are not the invading enemy force!

I was born in Pinehurst, Angus, when its population was about 1,000 in the summer and 2,000 in the winter. Grew up in Southern Pines, about 6 miles away. Playing #2 at Pinehurst in those days was like playing Carnagie Hall. Still is, I guess.

Never ventured over to Pinehurst. Played Shinnecock a bunch. Used to play once a week for years and loved it. When the wife and kids entered the picture, time was the issue. Fishing, golf, Harley, and Happy-hours once were the norm free time for me. Now it's Family and fishing (the family can fish too). I play a round 2-3 times a year, only to get frustrated on how much my game deteriorated. Sundays from Sept til Feb will always be NY Giants time, it's written in my marriage contract!!!
