I bought a stratos fish and ski with a 130 evenrude about a month ago. The boat ran well when I took it for an hour long test drive, and compression tested at 120 on all 4 cyliders. A couple of days after I bought the boat I took it out and it ran ok to the first fishing hole, but after an hour of fishing the boat started easiliy but would make a humming noise and die about a second after putting it in gear. The boat finally got going in gear after a few times and would run well at mid range but that scenario repeated itself 2 more times that day before we finally left the lake. Later that day I noticed some white fluid leaking out of the lower unit area, so I took it to the local shop and they discovered that the lower unit oil was all mixed with water and was milky white. We discovered that the shift shaft seal was bad so we replaced all the lower unit seals and gaskets, and the mechanic checked the shaft and bearings, and said that they all looked ok. I got the boat back yesterday and took it to the lake for a test run, but even though the boat starts easily, and idles fine in neutral, it still would make a humming noise and stall when put in reverse. I never did get to try the boat in foreward gear since there were high winds pushing me into shore, and I didn't want to chance it. My mechanic said the boat ran fine in foreward gear at idle speed in the tank at the shop. It seems to be running progressively worse every time, and really seems to act up much worse when it is out on the water. I thought at first it may have been a bearing of some sort when I heard the audible hum before it would die each time, and since there was water mixed in with the lower unit. But now I am wondering if it is an ignition, or some sort of power problem since the boat really has never showed as much power getting out of the hole as I thought it should. My mechanic is going to meet me at the lake next week to see for himself. Anyone have any Ideas?
