Hi guys i am going to be rebuilding my carbs in the next day or so and have a manual for this motor, but i am kinda curious about the carb settings on my evinrude 50. In the manual it says to set the floats between 1 1/8" - 1 5/8"...doesnt this seem like a bit much of a variance in settings??? Anyone know what the measured distance should be for this carb?

any help would be great

thanx in advance

I used 1 1/8 on mine. Was O.K.

Re: E50tlccs Float specs

Well after doing a rebuild on both carbs and checking the float settings they were both at 1 5/8". Put it all back together ran the motor in a barrel and ran ok, BUT when i went to the lake minutes after and tried to start it, the d*mn thing wouldnt start. What i did notice when i ran it at the shop is that there is fuel coming out of the carb barrel at the air intake. My guess is that the carbs are still flooding out, maybe due to improper float settings. I guess my next question to all of you is how do i adjust the float settings. I measured from the carb bowl gasket to the bottom of the float as noted in the picture. Do i bend the float arm or do i do something to the adjustment tang? Please help guys i have to get this thing running in the next 2 weeks b4 i go on my fishing vacation. BTW the reason for the rebuild was due to rough idle and shaking at idle/trolling speeds, and unable to keep the motor running at idle due to carb flooding.

With carb upside down, set float so that is level with the casting . side as well as front. The little tang on the hinge side of the float is your float drop adjustment. Make sure your needles and seats are sealing. With carb upside down try blowing through the fuel inlet, no air should pass.

i pay no attention to those measurements. i do as above. set the float parallel with the bowl. then when assembled i use a piece of clean hose, and do the blow test. just put the hose in your mouth.
