i have a Bayliner capri 1750, today at the lake my wife and i were out all day everything great....on the way back to the dock after dark were cruising along at about 3/4 speed. and the prop started making the sound like it was trimmed to high ( you know the sound like the prop is out of water ) and it - was making a wave- spay about 2 feet high ..... but i had not changed it or anything like that...it just happened so i stopped and set the lower unit trim to trailer... i thought i may have ran over fishing line or something. So now im in the dark in the middle of the lake and i see nothing. So when i try to plane it back out it was vibrating and making that sound again so i just went to the dock at idle speed... and out of the water with a flash light i saw nothing.....6-20-2009.....please help

Re: Help !!!! Bayliner Capri 1750

After checking the prop, did you lower the trim all the way down on your next attempt to plane?

You may have just inadvertently had the engine trimmed too high and that is all (hopefully) The trim button may have been pressed by accident.

Did the tach go up real high when the noise started?

You did the right thing by slowing down to cause the unknown noise or malfunction to quiet down, specially if you weren't sure of the nature of the problem.

Take a look at your lower unit and trim to see if anything looks funky now that she is high and dry.

Welcome to the forum and hope your problem is in your wake.

Ayuh,... Seeing that Bilgeliner Never built a motor or an outdrive,...
It would be Nice if you told Us just what the 'ell We're workin' on....
And,...
There's No Lefthand or Righthand side to a Boat,.... It's either Portside, or Starboard-side...

3/4 wot in a capri should be about 30 mph, would get you a ticket for reckless boating in NJ after dark on LK Hopatcong NJ.

Rumor has it that the US MIL spec now uses left and right rather than port and Starboard so You being a Fed makes it OK, Sir. (in my book)

Now,

After hauling the boat, did you perform a detailed inspection of the running gear? Externally for damage or loose prop, missing blade, broken skeg?

Put both hands on the drive and exert stress side to side up and down to visually inspect for an exterior malfunction.
