Re: Mercrusier mantanaince schedule

congrats on your new fine running mark twain. it's got a real dandy engine in it too.

the maint. schedule can be found in the oem service manual. i believe yer gonna need #3 and #4 (confirm by serial number). you can find these to download in the adults only sticky at the top of the i/o page, it's always the very first thread here. go to #9 and go find the one ya want. follow instructions for download at the bottom of the page.

ya might also gander at the summerization thread inside the adults only thread. it has very good info in it for pm to your new boat too. for that matter, all the threads in the adults only sticky thread are very informational threads. they are all good to read..

Check engine oil BEFORE EVERY START
check outdrive oil at purchase, monitor monthly, change yearly
by hand, grease steering cable end.
Don`t hit bottom,anytime.

Is that the Chevy 250 I6? Those are nice engines. They run real smooth and last a good long time. I love the torque production on an I6, and the naturally balanced engine cycle makes for a nice ride.

Re: Mercrusier mantanaince schedule

i've seen pics of steering systems that have grease zerks. they seem to be by the big nut that holds the cable on. personally, i've looked for a zerk on my boat to no avail. so, in lieu of not finding a zerk. i extend the cable as far as it'll go then just grease the shaft that extends out the cable. grease it up, run it back and forth a few times, maybe grease it again, run it back and forth and call it good as i can do. i've been using 2-4-c. i'm kinda going with the idea in bondos sig... any grease is better than no grease..

if someone has a better idea, i'd sure be up for hearing about it too...
