When this hard starting scenario takes place, remove the spark plugs and check for a strong blue spark that should jump a 7/16" gap. Do you still have this type spark?
If not, disconnect the black/yellow wire that leads from the engine wiring harness to the powerpack, then recheck for spark. If you now have spark, replace the ignition switch.
If still no spark, look closely at the stator under the flywheel. If it is leaking a substance from the rear or forward portion (or both) of it down upon the timer base and powerhead, replace the stator.
