Prop replacement, bottom gear case?

Hello. I am a new boat owner of a 25 hp 1969 Evinrude on a 14' Jon boat. The PO had a jerry rigged tilt pin that broke, and the motor dragged for about 30 ft at a slow speed. I thought I had done the damage you see in the picture to the prop and the lower gear case. But, the picture was taken before the tilt pin broke...so it has been like that for a while I suppose. I will try to get a better picture during the day tomorrow.

The part availability of that lower case is going to be pretty tough I would bet. The shop.evinrude.com site indicated that it is a dealer item. Will they really have something like this for such an old motor? And if so, is it necessary to replace it? Or is is just a safety issue and a protection to the prop?

Also, is the prop in need of replacement? The PO mentioned that the prop was intentionally curved to prevent getting tangled up grass in the water, but it is kind of rough along the edges. The picture shows the roughness a little and I am sure it is a little worse after dragging it a little bit (although I think I was on side of the road in the grass by the time it hit the ground too bad).

Thanks for any feedback!

Re: Prop replacement, bottom gear case?

that is your skag not in need of replacement. but can be repaired. most prop shops will weld it back to the way it sould be and paint it for 100$ or so. this is ok to run also not effecting the engine. it is to protect prop and aid in turning. put it this way ive seen worse. as far as the prop cant really see it but its not like your going to gain a whole lot with a brand new one
