Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

well, i had to dj a wedding yesterday so i didnt get anything done... figures too because we actually had nice weather.

so let me tell you about this wedding i did... first of all there were a grand total of 25-30 teeth total (not including me). someone was actually wearing crocs... towards the end of the night there was a guy on the dance floor with a bottle of vodka in one hand and red bull in the other... who needs a glass to mix a drink. swig from one then the other! and the icing on the cake was at one point i played gretchen wilson "redneck woman" and the bride (who had a beer (can) in one hand and cigarette in the other) came running from outside screaming "TURN IT UP THIS IS MY SONG!!!"

Oh, and some guy asked me if i wanted to go smoke weed out back with him (i declined)...

it was interesting. but the good news is that i played for 3 extra hours and got a $50 tip, so i made 200 bucks more than i was expecting. i may pick up some durabak and possibly a tach while im in burlington today...

25 to 30 teeth. That is a huge wedding in WV. We're talking 200 people, and of course all are related.

I am interested in using the durabak as well. Let me know how it turns out with plenty of pics.

I get it honestly. I am the first in my family born in VA. It is the best of both worlds. I get to hear and tell the best WV jokes without getting into trouble. If people get mad I just tell them I'm talking about family....Not far from the truth in some cases, unfortunately.

OMG! Too freakin funny!

I live in the country, and out here its just as bad as (places) down south. The county I live in has the highest rate of teen pregnancies, obesity and unemployment per capita for all of NY state and the average 2 income household is like $27k a year. thats for TWO incomes.

Its a pretty depressed area, lots of people on social services and whatnot... which is what i dont get. the ones that get the free health insurance are the fattest and have the worst teeth!!!

Okay guys, help me out here. im back on the fence weather i want to put that ply back on the outter transom. im just worried about how its going to look. Last week I hit the holes with some 5200, and in all actuality you cant hardly notice them.

so lets hear the pros and cons of just putting the motor back on...

another question regarding aluminum polishing. can i use a wire wheel to take the tarnish off instead of steel wool?

and finally, the transom cap is nailed, not screwed. what kind of nails should i use there?

I just sanded my trim piece and it cleaned up pretty nice.

The nails originally in mine were those with the twisted grooves in them. However, I did not reinstall them. I glued it down with 5200 and clamped it.

I believe ezmobee simply put the motor back on directly on top of the aluminum skin of the transom. I'm still up in the air on what I am going to do. As for the transom cap, mine was also attached with the spiral nails. I'll probably replace mine the same way.

It is my feeling that the wood transom plate just adds an additional possible point of failure. If that wood plate goes bad in some way and allows water to get into your motor mounting holes there goes your new transom.

Andy I am still on the fence on the outer wood myself . The trim however I plan to nail back on and I have been cleaning my trim with the random orbit sander . I started with 120 grit and am working up to 1500 grit:eek:.I can get up to 500 in hook and loop for the sander after that its a sanding block by hand :D.

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

Bob_VT went with a plastic piece for the transom on his 14' to avoid the possibility of rot. I'm not sure how that would work out with a larger(50-70hp) outboard though.

I'm debating what to use on mine, I like the look of the wood but rebuilding transoms is not fun enough to make me want to have to do it again...ever:D

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

in all honesty its all about the amount of work vs looks. at this point i have the piece cut, but would need to glass it and paint it (or leave it plain - no paint) and install it including drilling. the only reason im considering it is because of the holes from the previous motor arent going to be the same... so i wanted to cover. i think i may mock up the motor to see how it looks...

but good news, i got my vinyl ordered today, plus a switch panel and my registation lettering as well...

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PAINTED!!! PIC UPDATE 7-12-09

Well, I got a good amount done today...

got the first coat of green on the splashwell, and the transon and end caps on

got the new winch on the trailer

1248134167.jpg

also got a new trailer jack on

oh, and i had a helper, telling me to stop swearing and just read the directions...

1248133048.jpg

I also got the 6 knee brace bolts in, then i went to get up off the floor and couldnt move. must have thrown out my back. the worst part was i was IN the boat, along with my daughter and no one else home. i sat there for about 45 min till i could move again and managed to get out and hobble into the house. been icing and heating since 5:30 and feeling better now, but still hurts a bit. may have to take a few days off from the boat...

Keep up all the good work. I'll be back working on my boat in another week after vacation. I've already forgotten about all the joint pain and am raring to get at it again.

PS. I missed all the discussion regarding quantity of teeth. I've gone to football games and hit the bar nearby the stadium for a quick drink. When I walked out of stab town and asked my friend what he thought of the place he said "You could count the teeth in that place on one hand" :)
