It's a power pack, it supplies power to the ignition coils.

It supplies voltage to the coil then to the spark plugs. This Powerpack can produce up to 20,000 volts, so before you start messing with it thinking you can test it with a dinky little tester, WRONG, This voltage can hurt you big time. One of my buddies got zapped and to this day he still walks with a limp. Get a manual on this motor cause your gonna need it. I have 2 of these motor's and they are very picky on getting spark.

okay, good to know. thanks.

why would it have been added?

I dont even know if I am going to be able to use this motor, when i checked the lower unit lube there was a good amount of water in there, maybe 1/2 a cup or so. but before i can even think about firing it up i need a key, and the choke assembly is missing.

That power pack put's out about 250 volts to the coils, the coils will put out about 20,000.

I don't know why they did that. Just drain al the oil/water out making sure you remove the top and bottom screws ( vent, drain ) and then fill with only Premium C oil for ELECTRIC SHIFT the bottle will say on the back ( for older Evinrude with electric shift.
As far as the choke I always used the manual choke instead of the electric choke.
You can get a key from a marine dealer or they can point you in the right way.

For the choke, there is nothing there for the choke. i see where the magnet thing is for the electric part, but theres no plates that go over the carb intake. ill snap a pic later tonight.

how do i go about getting a key? there are no dealers anywhere within 2 hours from here.

Is there any way to start it without the key?
