Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

The Minnesota DNR has free ramps on most lakes in the state. We pay for them with our fishing licences and boat tag fees. Some cities have ramps, and charge an annual fee.

Private ramps at marinas tend to be $10 per launch. There's one I use sometimes to get on the river because it's sheltered. When the river's high, the public free ramps have too darn much current for me to retrieve solo without a lot of hassle.

Wow!
I had no idea that paying to launch was even a possibility!

All my boating has been done on various public lakes in Ohio, and I've never paid a dime for launch/retrieve/parking.

Hope we don't have any state officials reading this thread and getting ideas.

The marina in town has a ramp that costs $2.00. (don't know the annual fee) Keep in mind that we have up to 24 foot tides here, so that's a looong ramp and it gets covered with sand and gravel after a Northeaster an has to be plowed. We can also use the ferry ramp which is free, but you gotta time it so that you are out of the ferry's way.

Pardon me if I sound confused, but.....

I'm confused.....

What is this 'launch fee' that you speak of?

Here in B.C. virtually every boatable lake has some sort of launch ramp and I have never seen any sort of 'fee collector'. I imagine some of the major lakes (Shuswap, Okanagan) have some private marinas with pay to launch but they also have the public ramps that are free. Ah, yes, it's good to live in the land of milk and honey. :)

It's an American thing, you wouldn't understand. :D

LOL! Ironically, just met with some friends yesterday who bought a boat on the weekend. They took it for a test drive on Harrison Lake, BC and told me about the gong show and launch fees on that lake. They are like me though, and now that they have the boat, it will probably never, ever see the more 'popular' lakes - preferring to boat in more remote areas of BC.
