Old-timer out board boat folks I'm sure know about this thing, but this has got to be one of the handiest things I've found on iboats.com.

Just unscrew your pee-hole pee-er, screw in 1/2 of this gadget, attach the other 1/2 of the gadget to your hose. Then, no more muffs! Just quick-connect your hose directly to your motor.

FYI, the part that you screw into your motor itself has a pee-hole, which squirts out of the side, (and the main hose-fill hole automatically shuts when you're not using the hose) so there's no reason to remove it. Just leave it in full-time.

It's way more clever than it looks.

what lubricates the impeller if you are running the motor. with out running the motor, the tstats do not open so you really are not flushing the motor.

First, I have qualms about running water backwards--into the telltale, upstream. Tain't natural. Wouldn't want someone doing that to me.

Second, this device, seems to me, is not for flushing the lower unit or for running the motor. It merely replaces the garden hose connect for the upper motor flusher--and you don't run the motor when using that b/c you will burn out your water pump. It's sole purpose, as stated, is to avoid "fighting with the garden hose fitting." Well, the day I can't win that fight, I shouldn't be operating a boat in the first place.

That setup isn't for running the motor. It is for flushing the cooling system. I'd just use muffs personally.

Thought about getting one for my motor but.....by the time you unscrew what ever is on the hose and screw this quick flush attchment back on you could have just screwed the hose directly into the flush port.

The operator's manual recommends running the motor via the "flush port" when flushing the motor.

Besides, don't you backflush filters and just about anything else that needs flushed?

I don?t have my manual in front of me, but I found this listed as a ?Key Feature? in a Johnson outboard brochure:

?Fresh Water Flush Port - Easily flush the cooling system while the engine is running, stopped, in, or out of the water.?

I just called Johnson-Evinrude Dealer and Consumer Support Services (847) 689-7090.

My motor is a 1998 Johnson 175HP 2-stroke.
They said you can run the motor at idle using the flush port, but you don?t have to.
The hose water pressure is enough to push open the thermostat(s) allowing fresh water to reverse circulate. This will completely flush the cooling system and water will come out the water pick-up on the lower unit.

So, I'm sticking with it. Makes it easy to hook up the hose while my boat's on the boat lift.

OK here's the disconnect: on my 150 Yamaha (2003) there is a garden hose attachment to flush the upper motor and you don't run the motor on it. My OMC is too old to have a flush port of any kind, as is my Merc. My 50 Yamaha doesn't have a flush port at all. I've seen aftermarket flushers for $400 IIRC.
Your post sounded to me like you were adding a garden hose fitting to the pee hole on a motor without a built-in flush port, and just forcing water back up through it, hence my qualms. Also now lwe know OMC's flush port allows you to run it but Yamaha doesn't.

You should read the manual they gave you with the motor. My new Honda 225 HP says you will damage the motor if you run it while using the hose connection. The hose connection does a good job w/o running the motor. I still use the ears once in a while, depending on where I am at.
