Re: How do I identify what moter I have?

I would guess that its the 2.5 Liter Chevy (Iron Duke) engine.

This always confuses me. I have heard people use the term "iron duke" to describe the 4 cylinder that came in many boats. I have also heard people say that engine "we" use was never in cars but only used in industrial equipment. The max HP they got out of the duke was 90hp, considerably less than boat engines. I looked it up before and concluded that it wasn?t used in cars. Now I?m not so certain. Does anyone know for sure?

And the chevy 4 cyl that did find it's way into boats and industrial applications was used in cars, but not since the 60's.

AND...

the 2.5 that GM used in FWD cars and a few RWD vehicles in the 80's is a whole different beast all together.
