I have a 1981 Merc 200hp outboard that I just recently purchased. I filled the fuel tank mixed 50:1 cheapy oil.

Wich oil would yous suggest, also how about using additives to "revive" the performance a little.

Thanks
Eric

Any outboard oil that is rated TC-W3 will do just fine, Eric. I use Wal Mart's SuperTech so I won't have to pay for somebody's advertising and promotion of oil that is no better.

Synthetic TC-W3 oil will give you less smoke, pollution and carbon buildup but at a lot more cost.

The only additive I would recommend is Seafoam, but it is to help keep your engine clean. It does nothing for performance.

If carbon builds up on the rings it can cause some compression issue and Seaform may help and certainly won't hurt .... but if you have a cylinder that's down over 10% from the others you have other issues that no additive can fix

Also if you aren't going to use the fuel within two weeks some Stabil would be a good idea, if you are one of the unfortunate ones that can only buy 10% ethanol then get the Marine Stabil and use it for every fill up so the ethanol doesn't separate from the gasoline which can/will happen in a highl moisture application like boats
