This is my first time on here and also I just bought my first boat. I have a couple of questions to ask, cause I need some advice please. First question is: I have a tilt/trim motor, when I turn on the boat and play with the switch I don't hear anything and nothing happens. What do I need to look for or what do I do? Can I take it apart and clean it or do I need to get a rebuilt one or just get a new one? I want to work on it hands on so I can learn how to keep it up. Second question is: I ran the motor Thursday, 5 times, each time 30 mintues and rest for 45 minutes each time and every time it started up fine. The next day I saw black oil under the motor on the ground, it's right next to the prop. It's in a small puddle only. What does this mean, do I have a leak somewhere? I pulled the top off the motor and looked for a leak inside and saw nothing, no black oil splatters. Also, when I was running the motor white smoke was coming out, not a lot but you could see some, is there something I need to check?

Thank you for you time in reading my questions and answering them I appreicate it very much. GOD BLESS.

Follow wires from trim motor back about 6 feet. There will be a black two prong connector. Check to see if you get voltage there when you push on switch. If no voltage the you need to fix or replace wiring. If yes then you need to fix or replace motor. If leaving trim rams on boat then I prefer repaired motor with aluminum reservoir so that oil tubing matches up. New motor designs have more torque but different dimensions and oil tubes have to be bent around so that they line up properly. On bright side new designs usually deliver more torque and aren't as demanding to have fully charged battery.

Thank you very much sir for your advice and I will do that. Do you know where would be a good place to get a rebuilt motor? Thank you again for your time.

Auto electric shops can probably do the motor but not the valve body. Could also check iboats. Every once in a while I see stuff like that listed here. The aluminum reservoir has distinct mounting bracket. If mounting bracket looks same then it is. Could also check ebay ... when I'm not backed up or have extra parts I usually put a listing on ebay.

There is a listing on ebay that shows aluminum reservoir. BUT, you will want to call before buying. Picture shows more expensive aluminum but part number is for cheaper plastic. Either picture or product is wrong. It is a bad price if motor has plastic reservoir and a really good price if motor has original aluminum. Either way, the picture does a really good job of showing what the right pump should look like.

Call first. Make sure that it has aluminum reservoir - and, if not, that you get full refund including cost of return shipping. If it is not aluminum then it is overpriced. Misleading ads on Ebay are nothing new.
