motor stalls immediately

I just opened my boat for the first time this summer and it will not run. I turn the key and the motor starts but as soon as I disengage the starter, the motor stops. It is similar to having the kill switch in the off position. But the switch is set to 'run'.
Any help is appreciated.

Thans,

How old of a unit is it .
Could be losing power to your coil
Do you have a high temp or low oil presure shut down .,they might be faulty and telling your engine to shut down .

Knowing what kind of motor and drive would be useful

Re: motor stalls immediately

Sorry - it's been a frustrating day.
The boat is a 20' Campion with an Alpha 305 engine. The oil pressure gage shows that the oil pressure is up. Temp gage shows low but the engine doesn't start so it doesn't heat up.
