I have a 19' open bow bayliner with a 275 outdrive. How do I go about changing out the 2 bellows on the drive?

Welcome!

To change the upper bellows you need to remove the upper gear box from the drive. the bellows will be easily removed at that point. You'll need two new orings for when you reinstall the upper housing.

the lower can be done anytime but is most likely easier when the upper is off and out of the way.

Search the threads for removing the upper. Its been explined many times.:)

You should also have a manual to follow. Let us know if you have more questions. Click on these pics for some help.

Re: volva penta 275 outdrive

I now have another problem with the VP 275 outdrive. I just returned from Lake Powell and while there the last day, I loaded the boat on the trailer but the outdrive would not come up. I had my som go tug, pull , bang on it while I would activate the electriacl switch up and down. It finally came up. Not having any sense, I said lets try it again, put the boat back in the water and went through the same routine. Can anybody tell me what the problem and/or solution might be? I would appreciate any help that I can get.

Well, I would check out the retaining pawl to make sure it is releasing properly when the outdrive is tilted up. If not, it will hold the outdrive from raising up.

Can you confirm it is working properly?

Have a look at this thread.

Re: volva penta 275 outdrive

Through my investigations and fooling around I found that the shaft is slightly bent, the long shaft that goes up to the tilt motor. It took me a little while bit I now have it replaced. I also did the bellows while I was at it, thanks to your advice earlier.

I went up to the Lake yesterday to test ot all out. The motor goes down and locks and hooray the motor comes back up. However I did notcie that with the motor down and shifting into reverse it seems to be very loud, i.e. a small clunk or something like it. Did I do something wrong when putting it all back together? Is there an adjuxtment to let it go into reverse easier without the noise?

Thank You
Macrae

What engine do you have, and what is the idle rpm?

Re: volva penta 275 outdrive

I have the 5.0 Liter V-8 and don't know the recommeded RPM. I will go out and hook up the water and see what the idle RPM is on land. DO you think I need to put it in the water to see what the idle is?

Thanks
Macrae
