I noticed a little oil seeping from the upper hole of my lower unit. The motor was sitting in the hot sun so I'm thinking it heated up and seeped out. Should I replace the seal?

From the level plug ? If so yes replace the seal but check the oil for signs of water. Milky appearance = water.

Drain and level plug washers should not be reused.

If you have had any water intrusion then change out the seal and the oil.

Thanks. It was changed last fall by the guy who stored the boat, but I don't know if he changed the seal. The oil that has seeped out looks nice and clean. I'll pick up a seal and replace it before we take it back out.

It is coming out of the level plug. The drain plug is dry.

Still drain a little and inspect it for the "milk shake" thing. Just to be on the safe side.

Drained it and sure enough I had water intrusion. I changed the oil and seals. Boy the Evinrude pump is nice for putting oil back in!
