Hey guys, Need help with a HIN DMV says to many numbers?

hey, I have a Lowe flat bottom boat. The New jersey dmv says that there is to many numbers to my HIN i have 16 they say i need 12. Should I be excluding the first 4?

Also, can any one break down the HIN for me to get the year out of it?

The last 4 are the ones to eliminate. The number should be LWNX6615M801. When I checked the number on the HIN # web site, the M in the last four digits is incorrect. There is a typo in the number somewhere. If the boat was built after about 1972, the highest letter designator can only be an L. The way your HIN reads the boat was built in ? of 1998 as a 2001 model.

Thank you for the response. But I assure you that it is absolutly an M in the vin.

The tricky part is that you say the boat is a 2001. It really doesnt look to be a 2001. But what do i know, if i know i wouldnt ask lol!

I had a similar problem, and had to take a pencil rubbing of the number to the DMV before I could register my boat. Give it a try, and good luck.

that and or take some pictures of the plate or drag the boat in to the DMV and let them tell you what numbers to omit.

The first three letters are the manufacturer ID

LNW is the id for Lowe
The last two digits are meant to be the year of the boat and I will guess 2001 for the year.

The last 4 digits do not look right unless it is a 12 footer and that may be the model id ie 12 LJ = 12 lowe jon
