I bought a Slime brand inflator at WalMart for $15, it's the one with the flashlight integrated into it. Claims will pump a std car tire in 8 minutes.

There is no decent attachment included to fit the large neck on a tube but I can fashion something up, I just don't have the time to test it before the weekend and want to get something before the long drive up north!

Anybody have experience with this for blowing up a tube out on the water? How long does it take to do so? Has it been a reliable inflator?

I'm pretty sure you should be able to find the correct fitting that will allow you to use the Schrader valve connection on the inflator as a multi-purpose pump (basically just a funnel-shaped adaptor that locks into the Schrader chuck). I have one of these little adaptors I carry with me in case I need to fill up a tube at a gas station, but I have no clue where I got it.

Keep in mind the speed factor. . .that little compressor is designed to inflate a car tire to 30+ psi, not your towables that I'm guessing hold around 6psi-8psi. So, it's going to be very slow.

I keep a battery-powered inflator pump in the boat for tubes. It was $9 at a Big Lots in the pool toy section, runs on D batteries, and is basically a "blower" instead of your compressor. Fills a regular-sized tube in under 5 minutes, no cords or cables to deal with. Something to think about!

I have one of those slime inflators. Its one of my do not go boating without tool, but it never leaves the truck. It will slowly but fully fill up a trailer tire, as well as show you the air pressure in it.

I also have two other air pumps for my inflatables. One that plugs into the car and a rechargeable coleman one. The rechargeable coleman one is what I use for my towables, not the slime one.

It would do it with the right attachment, but I figure it would be slow.

I have had a slim brand pump for about ten years now and works great for what it is designed for. High pressure-low volume, you need a high volume-low pressure blower. Wal-Mart sells them in the campnig sections with the air matress for under $10.00. If you set on using the pump you have, go to an auto parts store and get a valve stem( used for you wheels)and a small long funnel. cut the top off the funnel and epoxy the vlave inside the funnel end. this would probly cost just as much as the other pump.
just my .02.

I have one of those as well but mine is 12V. Looks like a tiny hair dryer. It was very cheap and inflates my large tube very quickly. Any time I've ever tried to inflate something other than a car tire with a car tire pump it has painfully and almost uselessly slow.

Thanks, this baby is going back! I will look for a blower at a bigger WalMart, the one I visited is a smaller WM and didn't have much...

Don't take it back! Put it in the truck of the tow vehicle. You will need it someday and be damn glad you have it! Its a wonderful tool for what it was designed to do. I have given one to ever member of my family for X-mas.
