I`m still leaning to the points install part.
using a meter set on ohm`s Rx1
remove the wire from the neg side of the coil that does to the dist. ,attach meter to that and a good ground, remove dist cap and rotate motor untill points are closed, insert a matchbook between the points to hold them open.
Meter reads:????

check the safety kill switch. perhaps it is activated and grounding out the coil. has this boat run before?

Thanks Bt Doctur- ill try that next- The boat ran before it was winterized- it started good - until i messed with it (of course) - any idea where i may find a kill switch?

Safety Lanyard , has a cord that attaches to the operator, but you have 12V at the coil .safety switch kills that.

Besides running to the points on the distributor is there supposed to be another wire running from the neg side of the coil? If so where should it run?

Might have a gray wire for the tach and also the shift interupter.
forget those for now, get it running first. just have the black wire from the coil to the dist.
