New Teleflex NFB -how much play to expect?

I currently have a 1997 non-NFB teleflex rotary cable steering system on a Seaswirl DC 2100 w/175HP OB. 3 turns lock to lock.

There's about 4" play in the wheel, before the linkage at the motor starts to move.

How much play sould I expect if I replace the helm and cable with a new Teleflex NFB system?

How much play is normal for a non-hydraulic system?

How much play is normal for a hydraulic system?

With the NFB system, should I stick with 3 turns lock-to-lock, or go with the 4.2 turns lock-to-lock?

I have a newer standard Teleflex rack system and I find there to be at least that much play in mine.

Sorry, I can't answer your questions about how much play.

But, I just put a new NFB helm in my boat. The amount of play in the steering system appears to be the same as before. The new helm did nothing to lessen the amount of play.

the no feed back needs that much turn for it to kick in.

Make sure you get the right system for your motor. I had to install the NFB II, I have a 150. I have 1/4 to 1/2 in of play in my system. So far I really like the system. The steering is nice and smooth.

I don't have any play in mine either. Installed it four years ago on a Johnson 90 HP. So far, it has been very good system.

Ok, now I'm confused.

Half of those with a new Teleflex system still have 4" play.

The other half have no play.

Perhaps the play is in other parts of the system and just changing the helm and cable does nothing to tighten up these other componants?
