I've got a 02 Yamaha 225 2 stroke, is it ok to run seafoam through it? It's a little sluggish on take off. I also noticed yesterday it would only turn up to5200 rpm's.Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

What can it hurt??? Use to use SEAFOAM but it got to expensive at the recommended 1 oz. per gallon. Currently use YAMALUBE RING FREE at the recommended 1 oz per 10 gals. Have mixed in a shot of naptha ( lighter fluid ) and a shot of ACETONE and maby a shot of MARVER MISTERY OIL on occasions. Old MERC seems to thrive on it. I love mixing chemicals!!! FRED

it's a sure bet that you need a fuel stabilizer like Stabil, Seafoam or other to prevent your fuel from degrading in your tank. Ringfree is for carbon prevention/removal. You also need a fuel/water seperator,Walmart $25, easy to install. if you use these tools to keep your fuel fresh and clean you'll eliminate most fuel related problems. if you read any of these outboard motor forums then you'll know how much trouble and expense fuel issues can cause. the cost of these maintenance items is nothing compared to a trip to your local boat dealer for repairs, plus who wants their day on the water/fishing screwed up by a motor that won't run. Good luck!

Seafoam helps keep your gas fresh but is more for decarbonation then cleaning your fuel system. They make a marine stabil for outbaords. That is you best bet. I am leaning toward a break down and good cleaning of your carbs here. You can try filling your water seperator/filter with some cleaner and fill your fuel line up with cleaner and use your bulb to force it through the carbs. Drain the carbs by loosening the bolt on the bottom of the bowl. Repeat rinse. Do not run your motor off the cleaner you may damage a piston. When your done with the cleaner flush with fresh gas, drain and pump again. Maybe this will work without taking your carbs apart since it is just sluggish. It wouldn't hurt to pull your jets out and spray some cleaner through them. Make sure they are set to specs when replacing them. Good luck.

SeaFoam is an excellent fuel system cleaner. Right up there with ethanol.

Seafoam is a great decarb agent, used it recently with my 200 hpdi. Mixed 1 can in 5gal of fuel in seperate tank. I would not use it on a regular basis(fuel additive) because it contains 15 to 20% alcohol. Adding more alcohol to the ethinol fuel I don't think is a very good idea. I have been using Locus Fuel treatment 3oz to 10g fuel. Does a great job of keeping injectors clean and my HPDI smokes less and even more quite. You might want to run some Locus through. I bet it would clean up your carbs and injectors. CPT Woody
