unline 6 dumping fuel out of bottom carb, just started, everything was looking good. put new gas mix in tank and was flushing out old fuel out of carbs and the bottom carb float is now stuck and dumoing fuel. Is there and way to blow air into carb or fuel lines to unblock the needle and seat. I know everything is fairly good inside carbs it was spitting but old fuel wouldnt let it crank. so if possible i don't want to have to tear carbs apart. any ideas?? thanks

Rosser,

The best and right thing to do is just to tear the carb or carbs down and clean them. It is best to just go ahead and do it,then if the problem remains, atleast you know you removed the carbs as the potential problem. If not, and you do a halfway job, you really not established assurance within yourself that the carbs are not the source of your problem. Sounds as if you float is too high, or clogged needle and seat.

This is absolutely the correct method. However, sometimes it's just that the needle is slightly off it's seat and cocked in the guide. You can cure that usually by disconnecting the fuel line from the engine and running the engine out of gas. Then, hook the fuel line up and pump the bulb rapidly until it's hard. The sudden rush of fuel is often enough to dislodge the needle check valve and allow it to reseat.

Tap on the float bowl with the hadle of a screwdriver, sometimes that will free it up. If not its rebuild time

the good news is if you had to pull one of the carb tops this one is the easiest

well i tap ont the carb with a screw driver to loosen float, that didn't work. tried to blow all fuel out and quickly add more in to carb to unstick float, that didn;t work. So after looking closely at what and how the carb comes off of the motor block, i have already removed it, and now waiting for fuel to dry so i can blow trash out of carb and rebuild it. and no the bottom one itn;t the easiest one to take off, not bad, but not easy! be back to let you now what happens next! after a trip to walmart and bass pro shop.

You might consider cleaning the other carbs, if you find junk in the bottom carb. If it is only a stuck needle, the others may be clean enough.

BTW- inspect the carb floats for deterioration. Foam floats are original. Hard plastic floats are newer design. Neoprene tipped inlet needles are newer design. Plain stainless needles are the original equipment.

it was just old gas that had turned to gel. i cleaned it and know it is sputtering and putting but not running for a sec or two. what else can it be. did tear in to the other top carbs and blow them out but nothing was in them.

If the carbs were full of it I imagine the fuel pumps loooks just as bad.

Just a thought, but if you only had one carb turn to gel on you why weren't the rest just as bad? I'd be pulling the fuel lines off and looking for blockages.

Re: 1978 inline 6 dumping fuel

the other two carbs are getting fuel, if i pump and pump like someone else told me to do, ( tring to cold start it) to make sure enough fuel is getting to carbs then they will start to leak, but not pour out just drip. so i know they are getting fuel. but i have taken top two carbs off and cleaned them didn't think of fuel lines clogging. but next question is how bad or hard is it to rebuild fuel pump, or just breal it down and clean it and put it all bach if not tobad gummed up?

it runs just need every fuel part cleaned, and put a little oil on cylinder walls to build compression. to much fuel mix in sparkplug holes washed oil off of walls
