I wanted to know if having my carb floats set to high will make my motor smoke excessively . It seems to run strong , starts up good with compression of 100 100 90 port 110 110 110 strb . Thanks for the input !

What spark plugs are you using? What oil? Oil injected or not?

Re: 2000 175 Johnson carb question

I have QL 78YC , I have no oil injection . The fuel pump was change to non injection replacement type pump . I take great care to mix my pre mix fuel to 50 : 1 ratio . I use pennzoil full synthetic oil . It seems to run good at high rpms but lower and idle have excessive smoke . Thanks for the input !

Yes - float level set too high may cause an overly rich condition but it would have to be set quite higher than spec.

Re: 2000 175 Johnson carb question

Is the smoke white or blue?

Has someone had the carbs apart and possibly changed the float level on all
of them?

It will be using slightly oil more at an idle when running on 50-1 compared to oil injection, so yes it may have more smoke.

Different oils will have different amounts of visible smoke, so try another brand before trying to change any settings.
