I recently bought a 1983 16' Fisher Mariner boat with a 55HP Chrysler. The boat ran fine on the check ride, but the day we took it out as our boat and a family, we spent an hour in Texas heat running the trolling motor trying to make it back to the truck. The motor cranks up and runs like a top at first. The warmer it gets the crappyer it runs until it finally dies, and wont restart until it cools. Once it cools it will start again. Im running 50:1 mixture, highest octane i could find per the old owners sugestion. A compression test showed 150 psi cold, and i ran it until it died and it was still 150psi so its not compression related, the rings are sweet. A car mechanic friend of mine told me it sounded like the points or possibly the condensors. He said back in the day of points on cars when they would go bad, the car would run fine until it got warmed up and then it would die. I for one dont have the money to pay a boat mechanic to tinker with it until he finds the problem, so what do yall think? Im thinking new points/condensors/plugs and see where Im at. Your thoughts?
