...to remember our troops, for without them there would be no reason to celebrate our independence.

"There is only one "great" nation" in this world and without a doubt it is the United States of America. There is an inate courage, patriotism and love of freedom that is found in the citizens of the United States that is found no where else in the world. Sadly, it comes with a costly appreciation for the responsibilities of freedom that leads to great sacrifice.

Thank you, all of you past and present!!!"

--HIGHLY EDITED--

I'll leave this entire post at this:

Not all US citizens agree with that "we are better than everyone else" thought process and a thread expressing such an political opinion for no reason than to express it is best left for a blog entry, not a boat forum topic.

Have a safe 4th and enjoy the tax funded fireworks.

You don't actually believe any of that quote, do you? So, people living outside the borders of the US are cowards and hate freedom?

Frankly, we are hardly a 'free' nation. We stopped being free many times over, from the (re)creation of the patent office, to the 'Federal' reserve, to the Patriot Act, to Income tax, to busy-body people creating laws about how you can live your life, to ordinances and permitting laws requiring you to ask permission and pay a fee for anything you do on your property. Freedom left this country generations ago. It is now just a sales pitch for a bait and switch scheme, like that entire quote.

If I had my way, I'd cancel the entire holiday. Heck, we invade and subvert countries at our leasure and then celebrate independance for ourselves? It would be a joke if it were funny.

I love people who feel like this but still live in our country. If it's so bad move somewhere else.

I hope this doesn?t turn political....
I truly believe in the quote Ladyfish wrote. This is the absolute best country in the face of the planet. If it wasn?t we would have no problems with illegal aliens. If you don?t believe in this great nation, Canada and Mexico are nearby for you.
God bless America and our fine troops.

I <sarcasm> people who claim to champion freedom and then say 'our' country immediately afterward.

I'm not quite sure how saying 'our' country contradicts the freedom it provides us.

This thread will NOT turn into political banter or it'll be gone.

Its a sad day when we can't take a moment to thank our troops and their families for making the sacrifice they do without turning it into political hatred. Regardless of your political views the fact remains that there are American Citizens, our brothers and sisters that volunteered to protect us. They deserve our respect and thanks.

This thread is meant to inspire people to remember those who fight and have fought for this country of ours, all of ours. Anything else is not welcome in this thread.

You have the freedom to leave any time you wish. Or to stay and b1tch about it. Try that in a number of other countries and see where it gets you. Seems to me thanking those paying the price for your freedoms is the least you can do.

I AM NOT going to turn this holiday or thread into a polital war. I am simply going to say thank you to all of the vet's who have contributed, large and small, to all of the citizens of this GREAT nation to have and voice their opinion as they see fit.

I am 36 yrs. old and I am a disabled veteran from the first gulf "conflict". An elected county official, and am walking in the Independance Day parade with my family on Sunday.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
