Here is the story. Went to get one of my boats out at my brother in laws where I stored them after the flood last year ,Family coming in from N Carolina for the fourth. They want to ski and I been cleaning up what was left of the cabin from last years flood so haven't had time to work on any boats. Well of course the trailer had a bad tire. Took it off and went to Firestone $52.00. Came back put It on try to raise the foot. No Battery!! Guess brother in law needed it for a lawn mower or something. Back to Town bought a Battery $100.00. Get the foot up. Pull it out, no lights. Oh well its daylight and I'm only going 23 miles I check it out later. Stop by town again buy Oil filters Gas filters plugs Figured I would service and tune up at the lake before I put it in the water. $43.00. Get over there all tuned up and serviced no problem. Hook up the muffs for trial run on trailer NOTHING. Starter clicks wont turn over. Starter solenoid bad, check all my spare parts at the lake and of course I dont have one. Back to town 23 miles $22.00. Ya'll getting where I going with this.!! Come back remove old starter solenoid put the new one on. And you guess it ,cross threaded the Screw going from starter solenoid to starter motor. Very Tight area to work in. (Dirty Word) Pulled it back off and took the stud from the old solenoid put it in the new one and put it back on. Flashlight battery goes dead, Now I can't see in the hole any more. Just as I was thinking I sure hope I dont drop this little screw, I did. (Dirty Word)spent thirty minutes looking for it. Finally find it at the botton of the boat and I can just barley reach it with the tip of one finger because my arm is wedged between the heat exchanger and the Deck. Sure wish I had My flex magnet here right now. After wiggeling around another 30 minutes and screwing up my right arm from the heat exchanger I'm finally ready to try it one more time. I repeated the above process three more times before claiming victory. Now ready to try it again turn the water on for the muffs. No water!! Lake water Assoc. Is working on the well it wont be back on for and Hour. (Dirty Word) Water finally comes back on. I thinking what else it going to happen now! Turn the key cranks right up suuprize!! suuprize!! suprize!!
As the Water Boy says My Mama,My Mama said ,My Mama said Their will be day like this in the Boating World.
Just so you will know I have been teaching Automotive Tech. at a Community College for 26 years. And yes I still screw up stuff every now and then. Its just part of life. First off, have a great 4th everyone, and thank a veteran. I can definitely relate to dropping tiny things. I was replacing the u-joints on my outdrive, you know, the ones with the needle bearings? Well, being 6'3" and quite clumsy, I was tapping it in place with a hammer, something slipped, and that cap came flying off! I dropped all those stupid little pins in the rock driveway. It must have taken me 2 or 3 hours to find them all, clean them off, and put them back in. To make matters worse, I did it again! This time I only dropped a bundle of five or so.

You forgot to mention or it just has not happened yet...... the simple shoelace braking which always couples itself onto days like that. :D

Re: One of those days

Autotech, I relate to your situation way too well. Have had days like that.
Where was the "thwwooomp" and also the quick thought "now where did I leave the extinguisher"? I mean a day like that needs to be capped off with a little unexpected fire somewhere on some vehicle, doncha think?

Have a good and safe 4th everyone.

Re: One of those days

Boat ran perfect all day yesterday did not have to put a wrench on it anywhere, just more gas. We are about to try for two days in a row without working on it. Hope everyones 4th is as good as my 3rd.
