Well at least everything will be new :) That`s what got me. I haven`t splashed yet as I went a little overboard with everything new or rebuilt.

It will be nice to see you out on the water once you get the starter looked after.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

first let me say what a neat boat! Looking at these threads has got me itching to try restoring a starcraft tin! My question is what is the tow weight of a boat similar to yours? leary about towing to much weight with a vehical that has a 3500 max tow

Boat is under 1000 lbs even if you use 3/4"plywood and have a windshield....
V-4 motor is 301 lbs
Trailer is about 500 lbs

Even fully rigged, full of fuel and toys counting the trailer it is under 2000 lbs and tow's great...... I do not notice it unless I check my mirror's in my toyota 4runner or my chev truck

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Deep breath...... Carried the starter to the repair place yesterday and got it back today........ Brand new.

It appears as the starter had an unusual problem.... the magnets were cracked and there was a loose screw inside..... the armature was trashed, brushes shot and magnets cracked. The total of the parts plus labor would have exceeded the cost of a new starter so, the shop got one for me.

Installed the new starter...... then the skies opened up :( I will start it tomorrow.

I have been mentally designing my windshield to make it work. It is not a starcraft windshield but I might be able to do this..... I picked up some aluminum to work with...... time will tell ;)

Windshield :D

I took a straight across windshield and fitted it to the boat with some modifications. The SS owners know that the SS windshields have curver pieces so I used 3" aluminum stock to obtain a flat mount. I had to raise the window 3" to achieve a straight mount......

I slanted the side windows out but I am still deciding on how effective they would be...... I kind of like them this way.

I think it looks great! I don't have an SC original either, I modded the wing windows and had real fun mounting it :( then a day or so ago, I realized I mounted it 3 inches off center grrr...nicely done!

I think that looks great! It's funny, that's exactly the type of fabbing I THOUGHT I was going to have to do on my Jupiter but then the thing ended up fitting perfect when I bowed it out some. Not a luxury you have with a dual console.

Nice work, looks pretty original to me. That setup leaves more room for rod holders on the gunwales too:)

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

OMG it finally happened - Splashed!! :D

A few notes to ponder........ How in the hell do you get stabilized video when you are using a pocket camera! LOL it was fun to try.

My Son and I launched the boat and at first the engine would not fire ? and I had started it earlier today on muffs. Well I figured out that my new throttle cable needs an adjustment. I was not achieving the "start" position when I lifted the cold start lever. Easy fix.

The windshield turned out great and I added two more combing pads directly below the front of the consoles....... rather nice riding up front.

Found a few stainless steel screws and blots that need to be rounded a bit more sine they are sharp.

Not a drop of water into the hull.

Engine idles like a kitten purring and whips right up to 5500 rpms.

Water was rough but the gps read 42.5 mph which is fine.

I will load a few amateur videos soon :p

Very nice! Stabilized video? Only one way I know of...and that's to rig a rope around your camera and tie a large washer to it...the rope length is the height at which you want to shoot the video. Step on the washer and pull the rope tight. It's like having a tripod, but you can move the camera around while shooting video much easier.

Bob,

Congrats on the splash. Nice job on the windshields looks great.

To get stabilized video you must become one with the waves. Feel the pulse of the wind and see the glass smooth water.

Or do what Redfury said.

Just watched the vids. Awesome. That is one V4 that's clearly set up properly to be able to get out of it's own way.

Whole lot of splashing going on on this forum! Congrats on the successful resto. My kids enjoyed watching the vids with me this morning. My 3 year old son says "Go get all wet!" That about sums it up. Enjoy.

Well done Bob, glad you got the rig out on the water. She looks great and it sounds like the outboard is a stong runner.

43mph is a pretty good clip:D
