Odd trim actuated buzzer

Okay, so I've been reading some of the old posts about buzzers and trim being related, and they all point to the oil level setting off the buzzer (as opposed to overheat). When my engine (yamaha model 200txrs) is at idle I can trim it all day long with no buzzer. When it is at anything above idle and I trim it, buzzer the instant I touch the trim switch.
After reading all the posts about similar issues, I went out and checked all my wiring (this is only about 30 minutes after I re-verified my original problem on the hose and muffs) and after tinkering with all the wiring (not actually connecting or disconnecting anything) I restarted my motor and could not duplicate. Before I say that I (accidentally) fixed the problem, can anyone please give me an idea what was causing it in the first place?

Before I get the lecture, I do not have any yamaha controls. I can't afford them. The motor was a replacement for a set of 1978 johnson 55's and I got a tremendous deal on it and used all the old engine controls and added a trim switch using a momentary switch that was a spare consumable part from a Navy C-2 which I work on. I've run it in this configuration for 2 years with no problems and I take it out at least 2-3 times a month, depending on gas prices. this problem came on literally out of the blue this week.

Re: Odd trim actuated buzzer

I would take a close look at all the wiring. It is not uncommomn for and engine of that age to have wiring issues. All it takes is one little nick and the wire will corrode pretty quickly and actually break. I have gone through this issue several times in the past. Sometimes the wires dont even looked damaged. My methond for finding the problem spot is to hold a section of wire with each hand and gently pull. If it is broken/corroded badly, it will stretch with only the insulation holding it together. Good luck and hopefully Rodbolt will be along to really help you out.

Re: Odd trim actuated buzzer:Update please help!

Okay so I went out to putter with it today, and I have ran the rpm's up and down and I can not get the buzzer to sound. But if I bring the rpm's up just a little and hit the trim (either remote or on the motor) switch, the buzzer goes off. At the lowest rpm's that activate the buzzer, as soon as I let off the trim switch it goes away, but any higher rpms than that, if I hit the trim switch, the buzzer stays on until I drop the rpms. I should also point out that I DO have a yamaha ignition switch. It's the one OEM thing I sprang for. I have disconnected my remote trim switch thinking that's maybe the issue, but even with that disconnected, if I use the trim at the motor it still activates the buzzer.

Is it possible that the float switch in my oil tank is jacked? I can't see how, as the motor doesn't even have time to move before the buzzer goes off when I hit the trim switch.

Please help!!! I want to get some use out of the boat before I deploy later in the year!
