I have half a tank (3 gallons) of 2 year old gas. No stabilizer. How can I get rid of it? Other than dumping it in the lake I mean :D

OH, bad idea... Does it smell bad?
Check with your local county/city waste and recycling for disposal requirements.
You can use it in your lawn mower or give to someone with lawn cutting equipment or similar. Those engines will burn just about anything.

Dump it in your lawn mower if you want to, it's ok with me. But then you will have the same problem with your lawn mower that you would have if you use it in your outboard.

And don't even think of putting it in your car. Fuel injected cars can be mighty expensive to clean out.

Mix it with three gallons of new fuel and use it in anything with engine except your car or boat.

I agreee with Silvertip, Anything with a Briggs engine will burn anything and everything. I think you could even run one off water!. I Also use my Honda TRX300 4x4 ATV to "eat" old gas. Never had an issue burning mixed/old gas in her.

Personally if I did not trust it I would not use it. I would dispose of it at the local recycling center.
But that's just my 2 cents.

Ok- I have the same Issue- I like the Lawn mower 4:1 Idea- - Maybe I should mow some lawns for free for my neighbors I might have 20 gallons! I guess I should have used it last night for fire works - BOOM!

Re: What To Do With Old Gas?

I've had a lot of Landscape Subcontractors over the years take old gas. They burn it in their lawn maintenance equipment just fine. It helps them and keeps it out of the environment (people who dump it down storm drains and the likes).

I have a weed eater that loves the stuff. It seems to run better (my boat gas is always premium).

And, I agree, do not run it in your fuel injected car.

I had the same problem and just put it in large coffee cans and let it sit in an area well away from my house until it evaporated. Problem solved!

I took my old gas to my local Good Year tire center and they were kind enough to dump it into their old oil that was drained out of customers'
vehicles since it already had been mixed with two stroke oil anyway.

Re: What To Do With Old Gas?

Hi

Just old gas or old gas with E-10 ?

I would take a sample from the lower part of the tank into a glass jar, and let it sit for a few hours, to see if phase separation has begun.

I have successfully taken some old E10 gas through a water / gas funnel (I got from West Marine), then into my briggs lawnmower and a friends John Deer riding mower - gas hog (mixed with new gas).

If the sample shows a paste slime you will have to be more creative with the disposal, or seek legal alternatives $.

just my $ 0.02

2 years old gas is not THAT old ... 3 gallons only ... Being sure there is no water in it ... Like other's post, I would also mix it 50/50 with high octane gasoline + stabil and use it in my lawnmower of snowthrower or whatever burns gasoline. Here in Canada 3 gallons = $ 14.

Well, against all previous advice, I probably would pour it into the truck.
It's got the biggest gas tank, so 3 gal is going to get diluted pretty far before it hits the motor.
Besides, I think the Hemi likes premix :p

Re: What To Do With Old Gas?

I had 5 gallons of old premix from when I bought my old Starcraft. It had two portable tanks and one had 5 gallons in it. The boat was last registered in 2003 so It had been sitting a few years. Smelled like varnish and was brown in color.

To get rid of it through the county is like pulling teeth from an awake polor bear, pretty much can't be one. SOOO, I ran my old truck down to near empty, poured the 5 gallons in, topped it off with fresh fuel, and poured a can of heat in the tank. Truck ran no different than if I had never pour the foul gas in.

I should add that the truck is an old 1986 Ford F-250 with a carbed 460.
I did also change the fuel filter after running a few tanks through.
