what size outboard?

this is my first post here. I recently got an 82 grady white 241 weekender the boat has a 350 with an omc outdrive the engine is blown. everyone i talk to says not to replace the engine but get a bracket and put an outboard out back I still havent decided and im asking for advice. how much hp would i need on the outboard the boat weighs about 4500 lbs thankyou

You were ill advised. It is far less expensive to replace the 350 than to convert your boat for outboard operation (which rarely works well). Besides, you would have a hole in the transom to repair where the outdrive currently sits, not to menion the 250+ HP engine you would need to buy. The 350 rebuilt would be far less expensive and you would have a boat you could actually sell down the road.

How is the omc 800 sterndrive i was told that it is junk maybe iam ill advised
