I have been looking for a carbruator for my 9.5 hp low profile evinrude outboard motor. Does anyone have any suggestions on where i can get a new one? All i can find are used ones on ebay, craiglist, etc..... I am also trying to find a manual for this motor. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

What happened to the original carb? Do you still have it?

yes, I have the original carb. I was told by an outboard mechanic that the carb was wore out and needed to be replaced. He wanted to charge me 800.00 for a used one.

$800 for a used 9.5 carb, this has got to be a joke. I would had asked him if I really looked that dumb. I will fix that carb while you wait, or send it to me, and I'll do it for $7oo. Jokeing aside, I could do that carb for the price of a kit. What did he come up with that made the carb wore out. One man with a pencil can steal more that ten men with a gun.

That $800 carb just make's me laugh. There was another man, and myself that worked together over the year's.When we retired we worked for ourselves on the older engine's none of the business shop's would touch. We had aquired a lot of part's over the year's. We would set a price on these part's. If someone came in, and thought the price was to high, or did'nt have the money, we would sell the part for what ever he had. One way, or the other, he was not leaving without that part.

$800  Must've been a NOS carb still packed in the original box.

Entire 'running' 9.5s frequently sell on CL in my area for ~$200.

Nobody: It would have to be the engine in the original box, and I would balk at that.

Why don't you start with trying to tell us what happened to the original so we can offer advice on repairing what is probably a something simple. The carb kits for your carb is fairly cheap (<$50) and simple to do.

Leonard, welcome to the iboats forum. Where abouts do you live? I want to go and sell carbs there! :) $800 is a total rip off as you've seen above. Tell us what's wrong with the old one or post pics.

I just bought the carb kit for $26. There are no parts in that carb that would wear out that could not be replaced with the kit. But If you really want a good carb I'll sell you mine for $500 and free shipping.

Oh yeah, Don't go back to that mechanic.

The only time I've seen a carburetor 'wear out' is when the shaft that holds the throttle plate wears the mating surfaces on the carb body into an oblong shape and then extra air starts getting sucked through the space - this was on an automotive application with a lot more use than an outboard motor will ever see.

That's the only way I've heard also... and maybe some JB weld could fix it... not sure...
