Mercruiser 350 Audible Alarm???

I've gotten an audible alarm sounding intermittently and cannot find anyone with the golden answer on why it's sounding.

The engine was installed by the previous boat owner. It's a 350 mercruiser Mag. I think a 2006 model. I keep reading and have been told that alarms only sound for 3 reasons. Low oil, low gear lube, or over temp. And unless my temp gauge is broken, none of these seem to be the issue. (and with my hand on the risers, it runs cool).

The alarm sounds with the engine on and/ or engine off with the accessory on. The sound beeps roughly every 3 minutes. The batteries were old in the boat too, so I thought that may be a warning that the power was going, but that too was not the problem after replacing the old batt's with new Excide D31s.

Engine temp at idle is around 100-110. When in running it is low 120-140. Gear lube is full up to the line, and engine oil shows fine on the stick. The boat runs great. It has a new prob and WOT is just about 5000rpm. Any ideas???? Please help.

Did you check the outdrive oil resevoir? When it happens try to disconnect (one at a time) the sensors for the alarm that will tell you which it is. Also your temp seems a bit low. Your temp should be around 140-150 at idle.

Re: Mercruiser 350 Audible Alarm???

I will check the outdrive reservoir. I'm new to boating. And actually don't know where to find that. I'd assume they are where the silver hoses connect to the outdrive??? If so, these hoses were actually replaced by a mechanic at the end of last season since (during winterizing) one was bent and I think cracked. There is very little room to move in the engine compartment, so I will try to find the alarm wires, but that's harder said than done (since I already tried finding them once). The boat is a 1988 dixie cuddy. This engine barely fits in the underbelly of the boat.

Thanks for the reply. And yes... I thought the engine was running cool. Is that a problem? And if so, how does that get corrected. And honestly, I'm not putting too much faith in the gauges. The fuel meter bounces around. The speedo doesn't work at all.

Re: Mercruiser 350 Audible Alarm???

I have a 2000 mercruiser 350, and I am getting a steady audible alarm. It came on during a recent outing and I retruned to the shore strait away. When I pulled my driain plug, I found oil in the bilge. I have looked around with a mirror to see if I coulld find the source of the leak and the normal places (Oil pan, valve covers, oil filter) all seem dry. Is there a blow by or someplace anyone could suggest I look? I have had this boat since it was new and never had a problem. I have had it serviced regularly and keep up on my maintenace. This seemed to come out of no where. Any suggestions would be great.
