I picked up the boat last weekend for $1000 and its in decent shape (at least better than the last one I bought a few weeks ago that had a bad bottom cylinder) This force actually runs and I took it to the marina and had the compression checked and got 130, 135, and 140 which from what i've read is good. The seller had it maintained by a marina but has sat for 2 years. We put some fuel/oil in, charged up the battery and she fired right up, ran for about 20 seconds and I noticed no water from the pee hole so assuming she needs a water pump which i ordered. Question is, should I remove the old fuel in the fuel tank since I don't know how old it is nor does the seller. Should I also replace any of the fuel filters? I plan on doing the water pump, new thermostat, new prop. Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Yes dump the old fuel, and clean the carbs.

Thanks Roscoe. Will do; however, i've heard from reading through here that some don't recommend messing with the carbs due to the difficulties of getting all the linkages back in place. Should I just clean out the bowls or take it all off? Also this may sound stupid, but I've never done it before - any suggestions for the best way to dump the old fuel in an onboard fuel tank?

Disconnect the fuel line from the motor and let it hang over the back of the transom into a bucket. Squeeze the primer bulb to get it going and then let the siphon action drain your tank for you.
You may need to extend the fuel line to get the end below the fuel tank to enable the siphon to work.

It should siphon, but it will be slow.

If you don't have a manual, leave the carbs alone.
Just remove the bowls and check for dirt and gunk.

Thanks - thats exactly what i needed to know. I've got a manual coming in the next few days but still am a bit weary of trying to take apart the carbs. I'll try cleaning the bowls first and see how she runs. Do you recommend treating the new fresh fuel/oil with some additive? Also, I've noticed alot of discussion on fuel water separators and don't think i have one. SHould i put one in and where would that be installed? Thanks again.
