Bellows/Gimbal Question

I'm pretty sure my bellows cracked a leak as from one day to the next I went from zero leakage to 30 gallons in 2 hours.Bad timing finance wise.:(

So my question is how much more damage to the gimbal is possible if I have to wait a couple of weeks.I am thinking possibly rust and/or deposits from the lake water. I can do light maintenance but would not trust myself with outdrive removal.:(

Thanx in advance.:):)

Re: Bellows/Gimbal Question

Bellows? main drive shaft or exhaust?

If it is the Exhaust, no leakage to boat

If it's the drive shaft bellows, you will abuse your center bearing or end up sinking.

or is it an old OMC?

Fix it, Fix it right away or more head aches.

Taking the drive off is cake

Re: Bellows/Gimbal Question

bart, i can take my outdrive off, and, trust me...i'm really not all that bright. just pick up a manual.

the bellows (assume it's a merc?) isn't super expensive. when she's under 50 feet of water, it will be.

fix it

Re: Bellows/Gimbal Question

Don't get me wrong I have no intentions of floating the boat until it is repaired. The main problem with doing it myself is my physical limltations. Two years ago was no problem. Now is quite different.
