1998 Larson 176SEI outboard problem

My Larson 176 SEi with a volvo penta engine is slipping after I engage the prop past about 1500 RPMs. After that the RPMs go through the roof and the prop stops spinning. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

It sounds like you have a spun hub in your prop. A good prop shop can rehub it for you.

would that explain any clanking that is happened once i engage the prop?

That sounds like a gear box problem, not a spun hub.
