I have replaced the coils, plugs, powerpack, and checked the stator, rectifier, but still can't get a spark. Fresh gas too! What am I missing? All tests say it's good to go. The strip that wires hook to above the powerpack? Is there suppose to be any hot wire there? Somehow I am completely missing it!

neutral safety switch in the remote control?

sounds like you replaced about everything

The engine turns over though. If you pull the lock up on the throttle lever it won't turn over. So the neutral safety is working. The stator just sends voltage for spark right? The other thingy up under the flywheel?? Thats what actually lets it fire right? The trigger I believe it's called. The sensors and trigger.....are they all the same part? I'm just thinking if thats the only electrical part left then maybe it is bad. I have seen stuff test good, but when you try and use it, it fails to work.

Timer base!! Is that what could that stop the firing?

Re: 73 evinrude 65hp still no spark???

im in over my head on the ignition end of these guys .................... ive been lucky enough to have only had minor difficulties..coil and power pack.

the magnets in the flywheel can also become loose or get cracks.........but yes there are more components to run tests on.

a manual is what you need it should have all the resistance values and procedures you need.

other than that you may inspect the wire harness and find a bad wire.

Got the manual, but it just bounces around too much. I gotta pill the flywheel and take a look. I think the sensors are off bad! 174 chms across all the legs. So may just see first and go ahead and get the stator and timer base. $600 for the boat, trailer, and a trolling motor. So heck sinking another $600 in the big motor won't be that bad. Well another $300 for the last few electrical parts that haven't been replaced.

Try looking for loose/frayed wires at the key switch. Do the key switch test too.

Disconnect the black/yellow wire on the powerpack. It should be at the #6 position. which is the bottom left, facing the power pack. If you have spark after doing this, that's your problem. Open the control box and examine for loose or frayed wires. If the wires look good, the switch is most likely the problem.

BTW, the "other thing" under your flywheel is the timer base. It triggers the correct circuit in the power pack. The stator, in combination with the magnet on the flywheel, is an alternator which produces 300VAC. The recitifier has nothing to do with your problem - its function is to convert the 300 VAC to 12VDC, for the charge system. The stator feed the power pack and it does so directly.

I wouldn't spend money on the other stuff until you check this.

I already did the key switch test. The sensor wires are reading high ohms though. So I suspect the issue lies under the flywheel. I gotta get a big socket and pull it. Could be just some corrosion. It could be a miswire issue too though.
