Hi everyone. Im new to the board.

Here I am already fussing and complaining!!! when I got the boat I knew the deck was a little weak, But I Had NO idea how bad. Im sure its in the common areas. Under both front seats which were back to backs. and There were two smaller seats right in front of the storage space in front of the gas tank and the battery area. Ill let everyone know before they start ripping me. I am not good with the nautical lingo....So please be patient. Ok there is a space in between the battery and gas tank storage that has wood going like an inch maybe 2 inches under it. it has a flap over it and looks like water may fill it? Ok heres the question after that long spill. I am in the process of taking the fiberglass layer off of the plywood deck and plan on laying another and reglassing, But the wood goes underneath this spot that looks like water goes in it. and i am not sure if i need to keep Ripping the floor up around it? Please help me??!!!

Cat I doubt you confused anybody theres just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many new Starcrafts we are all in AWE over them :D. Ok honestly what you are describing sounds like the Splashwell which if you have an outboard is whats in front and on top of the Transom ( the part the motor hangs on ) . Pictures would most likely help us alot in helping you . You may be able to get the deck ( floor ) out without removing the Cap ( top of the Boat ) but you most likely also need new stringers ( support for the deck ( floor ) ) and a new transom so you may end up pulling the cap anyways . I would study up on deck and transom replacement.

Oh me I hope it does not come to that!! The Transom was replaced 4 Years ago. The stringers are covered with fiberglass all around, I will get some pictures of it soon The boat is currentley filled with all kind of stuff. ie a fan shop vac and scrap fiberglass flooring. I will take pics and post Later on tonite.

You need to host at photobucket or any other and when you load to the site it will allow you to pick what size you want. I believe 640x? is the norm here. THen as you are typing a reply or starting a thread, go over to your photobucket and you will see lines of code under you picture. You want to highlight IMG CODE, then right click it and copy it. Then you come back to your reply and literally insert it by pasting right where you are typing like this

Ok there we go. That was tiring lol. So what im trying to figure out is how far do i need to cut.I do not want to cut into anything that will make it harder for me to fix my decking. I would just like to be able to cut around the fiberglass and remove the decking.

Cat not to be the bear of bad news but I would pull the cap and splashwell off of her and get all the wood I can out and doublecheck the transom while I was in there . Looks to me from here like they did the transom from the outside and they should have pulled the cap and done everything while they were in there. The one shot you say is towards the Bow I see a battery and a fuel line which leads me to think thats back towards the transom ( rear of the boat).

The pic with the gas line and battery is facing towards tha bow. The gas tank and battery are not in their proper place. I moved them to get to the wood in the back corners. and when you say remove the cap and splashwell what exactley are you saying?? God I hope you aint talking major surgery!! I am new to boats complety. But not to construction.

Cat to remove the cap and splashwell basically you remove the rubrail that seperates the 2 then either drill out rivets or remove screws ooooor remove staples depending on how your Cap and Hull are held together and then the whole top of the boat should come off . The fiberglass guys know more about this process than I do as I am doing a Starcraft and wont get to my fiberglass boat till winter :D. Look at Keepnitreels thread to get better ideas on what I am saying as he is that deep into his glass boat.

I can find Keepnitreels log for anything!!! This removing the cap is worring me!! Please tell me there is an easier way. I have 95% of the fiberglass off of the decking, But Im sure to replace the stringers if they are bad you will have to remove the cap huh?

If the decks bad and the transom has been changed, the stringers are probably shot as well. Show us some pics of the total interior so we can see the layout. Do a search on core samples and read up on how it's done to test the stringers and the foam. While you have the floor open it's a good idea to check and see what the condition of the rest of the wood is like. If the stringers are bad you may be able to patch the deck untill boating season is over depending on the severity of the problem. The core samples will tell you the story. Let us know how it goes.

See I keep reading about foam, But my boat does not have any foam. there are these purple Retangle flotation like devices underneath the deck. They are hollow and flimsy? I have not seen any other boats with this in them. Has anyone else?
