Hey, can anyone tell me where to find a manual or a parts list for a 2 horsepower Johnson Colt outboard motor made in Belgium and bearing the Model number JCOCCM (I don't know if the O is an O or a zero) and Series number B7621768? Also if it helps the US patent number is 4,113,138.

About two years ago my cousins and I dragged this thing from our barn storage loft and began using it on our small skiff. However this engine likes to be a nuisance and several times I've spent countless evenings in the machine shop of the barn disassembling, cleaning and re-assembling the thing. Last summer it worked and then this summer it failed. When I tried fixing it this last week the damn bearings fell out and were lost :( Also the piston rings I found were corroding and had finally cracked. Also I believe that the nicked and chipped piston and spark plug need to be replaced.

So that's the status of the situation.

Re: Johnson Colt 2 hp Outboard

I just rebuilt one of these little engines this past weekend. It was very easy and took only about 3 hours from start to finish to completly dissasemble, bore the cylinder, install new piston, rings, bearings & gaskets. Cost about $100 including the cylinder overbore. I bored it over .030". So I figure I was getting 1.25 HP out of the engine before, I'm probably now getting all of 1.30 hp. It fired right up and runs like a top. I'd suggest putting a new top end in yours. Let me know if you have questions.

By the way, yall wouldn't happen to know if anyone makes pulse plugs that would would work in an outboard like my Johnson Colt would yeah? I don't even know if pulse plugs are compatible with marine motor tech or not.

Pulse plugs?? As i remember my colt used J4 champions. You can get an after market manual to cover that motor. Nice little motors for what they are. Very simple and light. Had a 82' 1.2 colt. Sold it and later picked up a 76' 2 hp (basically the same motor) because I missed it :)

Listed spark plugs are RJ6J later being replaced by RJ6C.

Its a points ignition system ... are pulse plugs suitable for that or only a CD system.

Also take care the correct plugs are only 3/8" reach dont fit a longer one!

The pulse plug finder on the Pulstar website only covers vehicle engines so not possible to find a recommended type for any outboards

Yeah, I thought so. Is there any other way that I could possibly boost the performance output?

It can easily be converted to Electronic Ignition. You buy a Module and take the points and condenser out. you screw the Electronic Ignition Module into the threaded hole for the points. You can also mount it to the underside of the flywheel plate. There are UTUBE Videos that show how to do this. I put an Atom Electronic Ignition unit into a 2HP Johnson some years ago and the difference in spark was visibly stronger. The Atom is no longer made.
