'67 Chrysler 45 now runs great but restarts poorly

Well, thanks to reading everyone on this forum, I got the boat in the water, it zoomed away great at full power. We took a few laps around the lake, and kept pace with boats much newer than ours (and bigger, no horsepower envy here). The engine ran really smooth. Then we stopped it for some fishing, but then decided to move. The engine wouldn't start. Well, I should say it started with the throttle in the start position, but I couldn't bring it back to neutral, push in the the little silver button and push the throttle forward. The thing would die as soon as I brought the throttle back from the start position. Well, I tried different things. One was start the sucker with the button in and throw the throttle forward - worked first time! Took my wife out on it a little later, then dropped her off at the dock. Same think happened, but this time my trick didn't work. Oh well, enough for a day, we trailered it.

Any ideas? Mixture (50:1 with a can of SeaFoam)? Carb clean or adjust? Cooling (telltale spurts it out, but not a constant stream - this after replacing both impeller and thermostat)? Crud in the fuel? By the way, where is the fuel filter on this thing?

Thanks for reading, any help will get three boys and a dad closer to fishing paradise - offshore.

Your problem is most likely carb/trottle cable rigging and possible choke adjustment.. If you don't have the trottle plates in the right position, you will get too little fuel or too much fuel for starting. I suggest that you first adjust your throttle cable then adjust the carbs and choke.

Okay, I'll try that, but I don't know squat about throttles and carbs. I'll take a good look at the service manual and tinker with it. Sort of like a Harley, I take it?

Here's a video of that first outing:

If you follow the instructions step by step, it really isn't that bad. If you can keep a Harley running, you can work on a Force.
