how long should it take for water to come out the engine cooling line after the motor is started with a hose attacthment? seems like it might have a thermostat to help warm up the engine?
i'm not sure of the year of production, mid 90's though it's a V-4

The water should come out of the tell-tale almost as soon as the engine starts since it does not have to go through the cooling passages to reach the tell-tale outlet. Be sure to use muffs with the hose when you run the engine, rather than the flushing attachment. Give the hose and muffs a lttle time to fill the water pump before cranking.

The tell tale justs lets you know that the water pump is working but tells you nothing about whether or not the water is circulating through the cooling passages of the engine.

I have a 95 Johnson 130, same motor. It takes a good 15 seconds or so, water will not come out the pee hole until the engine cavities are filled up. The pee hole is fed from the top of the engine near the port head.

Re: help with evinrude 130

EZEKE, I have a 1/4" hose that runs from the top of the engine to one of the three fittings on the taletell. The lower and larger 5/16 or 3/8 fitting is capped and not used on this engine. The large 1/2 inch or so hose that comes off the top, then makes a 180 down and connects to some sort of fitting then lays in the bottom of the cowling. I believe it is a venturi suction to remove any water that gets in there, but if I am wrong, I would love to know where it goes cause it's just been laying there since I bought the boat two years ago.

Re: help with evinrude 130

ezeke, I just looked at the link you sent me. For both the Erude and Johnson it shows my set up. The lowest 5/16 or 3/8 fitting on the "aspirator" is plugged. The middle 1/4 inch fitting is connected via hose to the top of the engine near the port head. The top fitting is a large 1/2 inch or so hose which lays in the cowling.

We might be talking different years here. Mine is a 1995.

ezeke, That "water intake" is sucking water out of the cowling by a venturi action vacuum from the aspirator. The pee hole and aspirator are pressure fed from hose # 24 connected to fitting/elbow #54 on the top of the motor.

I just looked at #35. I do not have that, I have a pipe plug in that hole not a fitting. The "water intake" Is way to large to connect to a small 1/8 fitting like that anyway.

finally got water out the tell tale, anybody know what the air nipple is on the port side of the motor, it has a red lever that rotates around it's just above the oil/fuel pump...

That's the schrader valve on your primer solenoid. The primer solenoid valve allows fuel mix to be injected directly into the intake manifold for a cold start. The red handle should be aligned with the larger cylindrical portion of the solenoid and left that way.

The schrader valve allows you to de-carb the engine using aerosol cans of de-carbon treatment and to fog the engine for storage/winterizing, also using aerosol cans.
