My engine is running hot!
Is a Mercruiser 1989 drive compatible with a 2001 motor? I was recently told that an '89 and a '01 drive have different pump pressures. I was told the '89 has a low pressure pump and the '01 has a high pressure pump, making the '89 and '01 motor not compatible. How can I fix this problem? do I need a new drive? How can I get my motor to stop running Hot???

Mercruiser 2001 260HP throttle body fuel injected
Mercruiser 1989 Apla 1 Drive

Also...
Its a Raw Water cooled engine...
It's running just under the red line on the gauge.

Ayuh,... Adding the plastic check balls to the T-Stat housing really helped mine...

Do you have a closed cooling system, or a raw water cooled engine? and how hot is it running?

Use a laser temp gun to verify the motor is actually that hot.You should be able to keep your hand on a riser or manifold without getting burned. If you were running that hot ,you should have burned off the rubber exaust couplers.
Manifolds and risers replaced when?
Impeller replaced when?

What's the red line on your gauge? You should be running around 170?

Thank you for the advise I will get it in the water and use a temp gun on it and let you know what it reads.
