I have a 1987 -- 85 hp Force Model # 858V7A

I am going to change out the water pump. I have the Clymer manual but it doesn't show how to get to the water pump.

It looks like I need to take 6 bolts off of the lower unit and take the shift pin out. Is there anything else I need to do to get to the water pump?

Do you have any pointers on replacing the water pump.

Thanks

Jeff

You'd be better off leaving the shift pin alone. There's a bolt up under the exhaust snout. Remove the snout to access it. Total seven bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the shift linkage half way up the motor leg.

DON'T TOUCH THE SHIFT PIVOT PIN! Just in case you were talking about this pin vs the shift rod clevis pin. The shift rod clevis pin is held in with a cotter key and is in the front of the gear leg.

Yes the shift rod clevis pin is what I was talking about.
